Reformer and revolutionary

  • Birth: Wardha, Maharashtra (1883-1967)
  • Biography: by Dr Savitri Sawhney (Daughter)
  • An ardent admirer of the French Revolution and of the American War of Independence.
  • Highly influenced by Swami Dayanand and his Arya Samaj movement.
  • Joined the Mount Tamalpais Military Academy in California.

Role in freedom struggle

  • Met Lala Har Dayal in the US. started a propaganda campaign, publishing a newspaper that featured patriotic songs and articles in the vernacular languages of India.
  • Founder member of Ghadar in the US.

Passage to Mexico

  • The Mexican Revolution of 1910 inspired Khankhoje.
  • Appointed as professor at the National School of Agriculture in Chapingo, near Mexico City.
  • The renowned Mexican artist Diego Rivera painted murals that featured Khankhoje, including one titled 'Our Daily Bread' that prominently depicted him breaking bread with people seated around a table.
