ObjectiveEnhance sporting talent of girls in Kasturba Gandhi Residential Girls Schools (KGBVs) and prepare them for national-level competitions.

ImplementationTwo KGBV schools from each of the 73 districts (except Kanpur Dehat) included in the pilot project.
Sports SelectionA sports committee in each school will select sports based on students' interest and available resources.
Training & SupportSpecial sports training by experts, health check-ups, nutrition programs, and health awareness initiatives. Former national/international players to motivate students; awards for exceptional performers.
PartnershipsState and national sports associations and corporate groups to provide sports equipment and facilities.
KGBV SchemeLaunched by Government of India in August 2004 to provide quality education to girls from SC, ST, OBC, and minority communities in educationally backward blocks (EBBs).
EligibilityGirls aged 10-18 from disadvantaged backgrounds or low female literacy areas; 75% seats reserved for SC, ST, OBC, and minorities; 25% for girls below the poverty line.
ScopeFocuses on areas with low female literacy, high out-of-school girls, and scattered settlements unsuitable for schools.
Current StatusAt least one KGBV school established in each EBB, offering education with residential facilities for girls from classes VI to XII.
